IOPC FAQ's OUTCOMES FROM HILLSBOROUGH ENQUIRY
SUBSCRIPTIONS 2025
The annual reporting of the CPI, published for September 2024 is 1.7%. This should mean an annual percentage
increase for Police Pensions in April 2025 will be the same (previously 6.7%). However, this is yet to be
confirmed by the Government.
Rule 4.3 states that Subject to Rule 4.4, the level of the Minimum Subscription shall be increased annually by the
same percentage as the percentage increase in police pensions as determined in the previous year, and where
the Minimum Subscription as so increased is not divisible by 12 without involving fractions of a penny, the
amount shall be rounded up to the nearest figure which is so divisible. This figure shall be implemented on 1
January of each year.
Therefore, as from 1st January 2025 the minimum subscription will be £26.76 (previously £26.28), this amounts
to £2.23 per month (previously £2.19).
Your precept rate, which is currently 40%, is payable on your total Branch Members not including spouse or
widow members.
This breaks down as: Precept (40%) £10.70 (previously £10.51) – Branch (60%) £16.06 (previously £15.77) – total
subscription £26.76 (previously £26.28).
As per Rule 4.3 the figure of £26.76 (Minimum Subscription) will be the base figure used to calculate any
increase for 2025.
Widows and Honorary Members, do not pay a subscription.

CPI increase and Police Pensions
September 2023
The ONS published the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2023 and this stands at 6.7%.
Full details can be found on the ONS website
Public service pensions in payment are increased each April in line with prices, measured according to the annual increase in the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) to September of the previous year. This is in line with the statutory requirement to increase public service pensions in payment each year by the same rate as the additional State Pension set out in the Pensions Increase Act 1971 and Section 59 of the Social Security Pensions Act 1975
The process for an increase Public Sector Pension is the same each year. The Statutory Instrument (SI) and Treasury Order goes through Parliament and this is expected in January 2024.
